The start

The race will start on York Street, Peterhead, adjacent to Peterhead Leisure Centre’s bus/car park (AB42 1SP).  Please note that there are no changing facilities available.  Runners should come prepared ready to go.

Your starting wave will be allocated to you based on your projected finishing time.  This is necessary for safety considerations and to help prevent traffic congestion.  However, if you would prefer a particular start time please send a message using the contact form (see “Contact” under the “About” menu).  There is no guarantee but no harm in asking!

Registration

Please aim to arrive around 30 minutes before your start wave time for registration.  There will be a safety briefing shortly before each wave.

The finish

All teams are invited to use the changing and shower facilities at the Meadows Sports Centre (AB41 9QJ).  All runners and the team driver will receive a token for one free alcoholic or soft drink.  There will be prizes for the fastest female, male and mixed teams and a memento for all runners.

Route information

The Formartine and Buchan Railway used to run trains from Dyce to Fraserburgh and Peterhead.  Services stopped running in the 1970s and the line was converted into a cycleway and footpath.  It is entirely traffic-free but there are a number of road crossings to navigate.  It is well signed and easy to follow, but runners are responsible for their own navigation as there will be no marshals on the course.  The surfaces varies and while there are sections of tarmac most of the line is dirt track.  The route is free from sharp hills but there are some long steady ups and some long speedy downs.  The start will be staggered to reduce congestion and to get teams finishing within a smaller time window.  Teams should estimate their finishing time on the entry form.  Teams are requested to only use one vehicle for the event due to very limited parking at handover points.  Driving instructions can be found under “Resources”.
