The Railway Relay 2018

The provisional date for The Railway Relay 2018 is Sunday the 5th of August.  Preparations will commence and entries open Spring 2018.

This is predominantly a for-fun event to raise money for local good causes, but competitive teams are more than welcome to come join us and tear up the trails.

How would you like to spend a day with team-mates running on a traffic-free trail route through quiet and scenic Scottish countryside?  Open to all abilities.  Run for pleasure or compete for the top spot against other female, male and mixed teams.  This is the event's third year running after a small inaugural and the much bigger second year.

This event aims to be a fantastic day out for serious and fun-runners alike; all the while raising funds for good causes in the Ellon area.

The route follows the old railway line that runs between Peterhead and Ellon and goes through a number of small villages.  Runners can expect quiet trails, beautiful scenery and fast relay legs from around 2 to 4 miles each.  Check the "Information" page for details of the legs.

If that sounds good to you then get a team of 3, 4 or 5 together and sign up for The Railway Relay.

*** Note that the event format is such that teams will need a car to ferry the rest of the team around whilst a runner is out on the route.  You can get a friend to do this or if possible team members can do it if multiple people have valid insurance for the team vehicle.  Alternatively and strongly encouraged is for teams to use bicycles for transport. The route is point to point.  ***

At the finish the bar will be open for business and all team members can claim a FREE beer or soft drink!  There will also be a BBQ.  Runners will also receive a memento.

The proceeds from the 2017 Railway Relay went to 1st Ellon Scouts Group.  A cheque for £910 was presented to the Scouts and the money will be going towards the purchase of a new trailer to support the group's year-round camping activities.
